Discreet alarm detectors in a contemporary interior

Choosing

Alarm monitoring or a connected alarm: what’s the difference?

A connected alarm alerts you on your phone, with the detector that was triggered, and you decide what happens next. With alarm monitoring, your alarm is also connected to the licensed monitoring centre of Securitas, our partner: an operator checks every alert and notifies the people you’ve chosen, following the agreed procedure.

Alarm monitoring is useful when nobody can respond to an alert: a shop, premises holding stock, a house that is often empty. It isn’t necessary if you simply want to be alerted and decide for yourself. We’ll tell you honestly at the site visit. Alarm monitoring in detail

Do I need a subscription?

Not to use your installation: the equipment is yours, your codes are handed over on completion and the app is free.

Two things are paid for separately, only if you want them: the annual service with DeepSense Care, paid monthly, and alarm monitoring, under a direct contract with the monitoring centre. Own or rent: what changes

Where to start: an alarm or cameras?

They don’t do the same job. An alarm warns you while something is happening; cameras show you what happened and give you evidence. Many places need both, but not all. That is exactly what the site visit is for: choosing according to what you want to prevent and what you want to be able to prove.

Is it compatible with my existing system?

Often, in part. An old wired alarm can keep its cabling and sometimes its detectors, with a new control panel you can manage from your phone. An old intercom can make way for a video intercom on the same wires, if the cable allows it. A recorder at the end of its life can be replaced while keeping the cameras that still work.

We check this at the site visit, room by room, and if something can’t be kept, we explain why before the quote.

Do you also work for private individuals?

Yes. We mainly equip offices, shops and professional practices, and homes too, often those of our business clients. At home, what matters isn’t the same as at the office: we start from the way you live. Security at home

Day to day

What happens if the power or the internet goes down?

The alarm has a backup battery and its wireless detectors have their own batteries: it keeps working. Without internet, it can switch to a SIM card, if you’ve opted for one, so it can keep alerting you.

The badge readers are designed to stay safe: a door stays locked or opens freely, depending on what you decided with us for each door. The cameras keep recording on the local recorder; only remote access waits for the internet to come back.

Can I control everything from my phone?

Yes: set the alarm, view the cameras, open a door, answer the video intercom, disable a badge. Usually one or two apps are enough, depending on the equipment chosen. It is set out in the quote, before you sign.

Who responds when the alarm goes off?

The siren sounds, for 3 minutes at most outdoors, and the alert reaches the phones you’ve chosen, with the detector involved. If your alarm is connected to a monitoring centre, an operator checks the alert and notifies the designated people, or sends a guard if you’ve chosen that option with the monitoring centre. DeepSense installs and maintains; we don’t attend on site when an alarm goes off.

My IT provider isn’t DeepIT: is that a problem?

No. Cameras, alarm and badge readers run over your network, and we speak your IT provider’s language: before installation, we work with them on what our devices need. If there’s an issue, they call us, not you. If your IT is with DeepIT, the same team looks after everything. IT, with DeepIT

Rules, maintenance and lead times

Do I have to register my cameras?

Yes, as soon as a camera films a place open to the public or the outdoors: a shop, an office, a building entrance, the driveway of a house. The registration is made in your name on declarationcamera.be before the system goes live, and is confirmed every year. A pictogram marks the filmed area and footage is kept for one month at most, except to prove an incident. We prepare the registration with you and put up the pictogram. The camera law, in plain terms

Cameras at work: what does Belgian law say?

Three simple rules. Inform: staff must know that they may be filmed, where and why (collective labour agreement CCT no. 68). A specific purpose: the safety of people and property, the protection of the premises, never monitoring work as such. A limited period: footage is not kept longer than necessary, one month at most as a general rule. And never a camera in changing rooms, toilets or break areas. We define the filmed areas with you, filming only what is strictly necessary.

Is alarm maintenance compulsory?

Yes. In Belgium, an alarm must be serviced every year by a licensed company, which gives you a written certificate: keep it, as your insurer may ask for it. You can entrust this maintenance to DeepSense Care or to the licensed company of your choice. Without a monitoring centre, the alarm must also be registered with the police, online, within 10 days of going live: we guide you through it.

How long does an installation take?

It depends on the number of devices and the cabling. A wireless alarm in offices goes in quickly; a set of cameras with cables to run takes longer; a new building follows the pace of the construction work. At the site visit, we tell you how long it will take and when we can come, and the quote includes these dates.

Are you a licensed company?

Yes. DeepIT SRL, of which DeepSense is the brand, is licensed by the FPS Home Affairs for alarm systems and camera systems (company number 0766.716.506). In Belgium, a company that installs or maintains alarms and cameras must be. Who we are

Is there a grant in Brussels?

For SMEs and the self-employed, the Brussels Region offers a security grant. Its conditions and amount are set by the Region, and you must apply before the work starts. Everything is explained on economie-emploi.brussels. Mention it during the site visit, so that the quote reaches you in time.
